About Gulshad Ansari

BIM Automation Specialist, based in Dubai, UAE. I build practical automation for the BIM work that gets repeated on every project — in Revit, Dynamo, the Revit API and Python, and increasingly with AI.

Contractor-focused BIM automation

What I work on

Most of the time on a BIM project does not go into decisions. It goes into steps that repeat: redrawing geometry that already exists in CAD, placing the same elements one at a time, copying data between drawings and parameters, and checking the result by eye. I look for those steps and turn them into tools that run inside Revit.

The focus is the contractor side of BIM — models that have to be built from existing drawings, coordinated across disciplines and kept consistent through every revision. That is where repeated manual work piles up, and where automation earns its place.

Where the automation applies

  • Architecture

Walls and model geometry generated from CAD linework and from host or linked faces, instead of being redrawn by hand. The full Revit Architecture workflow is also taught in the courses.

  • Structure

Structural modelling on a real project — columns, foundations, beams, slabs and a staircase — taught in Part 2 of the Dubai BIM villa project.

  • MEP / HVAC

Ductwork generated from CAD centrelines, air terminals placed from the drawing, and airflow values assigned from the same source data.

  • Coordination and QA/QC

Working across linked models — worksets, element IDs and view filters kept in step — and checking generated elements against their source before the model is relied on.

How it is built

  • Revit and the Revit API

Add-in tools that work directly on the model, inside the software the team already uses.

  • Dynamo

Graph-based automation for tasks that are quicker to solve visually than as an add-in.

  • Python

Scripting for automation and for moving data in and out of the model.

  • AI + BIM

Exploring how AI agents can work inside Revit through MCP — reading the model, making changes and checking the result. This is active exploration, not a finished product.

Gulshad BIM Toolkit

The Toolkit is where the automation comes together: a Revit add-in, currently v0.1.0 Beta, with 11 tools for Revit 2024 to Revit 2027. It was built out of repeated project work — tools such as CAD Wall Generator, CAD Centerline To Duct and Air Terminal CFM Assigner exist because the manual version of each task kept coming back.

Teaching

I also teach. The free courses on this site cover Revit Architecture, a real villa project in Dubai through its architectural and structural scope, and Lumion. The Revit Architecture and Lumion series are taught in Hindi and Urdu.

The system proposes. The engineer decides.

Construction carries real responsibility, and automation should extend what a professional can do rather than quietly take over the judgement they are accountable for. Every tool is built so that a person checks the result before anyone relies on it: generated elements are reviewed against the drawing they came from, and nothing an AI proposes is applied until someone accepts it.

Work together

If there is a repetitive BIM task on your projects that should be a tool, or you want to talk about the Toolkit or the courses, get in touch. I work independently, as an individual rather than through a company.
